Summary

10 Palestinian & Syrian Single Mothers Widows Refugees in Jordan, Lebanon & Iraq

Story

Our widows and orphans are among the most vulnerable people in our Ummah today.

These families are well known to us personally. Many of them are widows and single mothers caring for multiple orphans, while others are orphans who have lost both parents and are now being looked after by elderly aunts or grandmothers—many of whom are widows themselves, already struggling to raise their own children or care for disabled family members.

For years, we have been supporting these families both during Ramadan and outside of it, doing what little we can to ease their hardship.

These families fled for their lives and are now scattered across Lebanon, Iraq, and Jordan. They live without legal status, without protection, and without any formal support system. They are truly the forgotten and the most vulnerable in society.

Many of the mothers are ill. Some of the children suffer from sickness or special needs.
The children are often malnourished, wearing torn clothing, barefoot or without proper shoes. Some wait day after day hoping that a kind soul might show mercy and provide them with a piece of bread, a warm meal, a simple T-shirt without holes, or a pair of shoes.

Imagine the pain of a mother watching her children suffer like this — unable to provide for them after losing her husband.

Many of these women lost their husbands who sacrificed their lives for the greater good of the Ummah, and we pray that they are among the Shuhada, Insha’Allah. Today, these families are left in the most difficult circumstances.

SubhanAllah.

Please take a few minutes to watch the videos showing their desperate situations. Many of the families were too shy and too embarrassed to be filmed, so what you see is only a glimpse of the reality they live in.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ reminded us about our responsibility towards the most vulnerable:

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“The best house among the Muslims is the house in which an orphan is treated well, and the worst house among the Muslims is the house in which an orphan is treated badly.”

He ﷺ also said:

“Whoever strokes the head of an orphan out of mercy for the sake of Allah, he will have a good deed recorded for every hair over which his hand passes. And whoever treats an orphan boy or girl with kindness, he and I will be like these two in Paradise.”
(The Prophet ﷺ then joined his fingers together.)

And he ﷺ said:

“The one who strives to serve a widow and the poor is like the one who strives in the cause of Allah.”

When a man complained to the Prophet ﷺ about having a hard heart, he advised him:

“Show mercy to the orphan and feed the poor.”

Your support can feed a hungry child, clothe an orphan, and support a struggling widow.

May Allah reward every act of mercy towards them.
